Using the new Scheduling App (Acuity)
The link for scheduling will be part of the new app, but until then you’ll want to bookmark the link or simply go to our website and click on the link at the top of the page. I can also send the link in an email or text also if that’s easier!
Pro Training and 168 Workout sessions can be scheduled from the app. 168 is always available and is for those who prefer looser scheduling and don’t require as much coaching. Pro Training will be fully staffed and coached, but require on-time arrivals!
Of course, if there’s any issues with the app, you can always call or shoot us an email to schedule. To schedule a check-in, please email me or message us in the app and we’ll find availability to get it set up!
Using Trainerize for Communication
In the next 2-3 weeks, the Trainerize App (the one we use in-gym for workouts on the iPads) will be branded as Coastal Performance in the app store, as the former scheduling app is officially phased out. One of the great parts of working with Trainerize for so many years is their constant improvement of their software. The messaging function in the app is now AWESOME. You can not only text, but share video, pdfs, and even video calling for check-ins. Because of this and other features, we’re going to use the app as the portal through which all communication (outside of admin) takes place between us. It’s the center of the coaching relationship, and you’ll really like the benefits it provides.
If you haven’t set up your app on your phone or iPad yet, let us know and we’ll be happy to walk you through it. If you aren’t an app person, we can certainly continue to communicate by traditional means as well!
The Programming Cycle
As part of our continuing effort to produce challenging custom workout programs that are perfectly matched to your needs, we’re using a quick form every 4 weeks to get your feedback. The link will be auto-messaged (another cool feature) in the Trainerize App on the Thursday before your new program is due. Additionally, you can follow the link below - obviously you’re always welcome to provide feedback on your program!
PRO TRAINING SESSIONS
Pro Training is designed to be the same experience as personal training, but in a shared environment where no moment is wasted between sets, exercises, and water breaks. Our years of experience allow us to give you the feel and attention to detail of a world-class personal training session at the convenience and cost of a group workout session. Here's what you should expect:
Your workout for the day will be waiting on an iPad with your name on it, ready to go. Your workouts are designed in four week cycles, so if it's the first week of a new cycle for you (new exercises and goals) we'll review the changes as you begin your warmup.
At the same time, we'll do a quick "check-in" on how you're feeling, your readiness to train, and set some goals for the day. Not every workout can be a record-shattering beast mode session, but working together to get a little more out of each day adds up to big results in the long-run.
In a given hour, your coach will be working with up to 5 other clients (usually 2-3). It's totally normal to worry that you might "get lost in the shuffle" if you're just starting out. We know our freshest clients are going to need the most help getting in the flow of our system, and we're on top if it. That doesn't mean our veterans get cast aside though; there's a never-ending stream of beneficial "tweaks" and other coaching points that provide just as much value in year 5 as they did on Day 1.
As you work into the workout, your coach will reference the iPad for your upcoming exercises. As you follow along, make sure you understand the organization of exercises and how to input variables like weight used, number of reps, etc... The app will track EVERYTHING you put into it, which is really convenient and motivating once you see how much your numbers improve over time.
During your workout, the coach on the floor will make all the necessary adjustments to exercise technique, intensity, and execution. In order to truly provide a "personal training' experience in a group, we focus on coaching above all else. That means we'll need your help here and there to grab equipment, input information, and count reps.
Once we get you all the way through to the end of your workout, make sure you score the workout on the iPad (after pushing "SAVE") and add any comments. We LOVE feedback, especially if your coach for the day is too busy with other clients to get it directly. The better we can communicate together, the more laser-focused and customized we can make your experience.
If you want to schedule your next appointment, you can pull up the scheduler right from the iPad, or let one of us know directly. If you’ve got a consistent time you’re into, we can set up recurring sessions so you only need to let us know if you’d like to make a change.
The workout should take roughly 60 minutes. If it's running a little long, you'll have as much time as you need to finish on your own! If space is available in the gym, feel free to cool down/stretch however you prefer! This is YOUR clubhouse and we want to to feel as comfortable as possible (well at least when you AREN'T training hard).
Private Training
Private Training at Coastal is designed to give you the premiere, “hands-on” one-on-one personal training experience. Our Private clients often have unique goals or priorities, need specific modalities for an injury or limitation, or just want the benefits of having an expert coach all to themselves.
Your coach will be waiting for you with your workout for the day. Once we’re updated on your status and progress, we’ll get to work. We focus heavily on technique, even during “warmups,” so if you’re used to a trainer just having you grind away on the treadmill to get loose, you’re in for a treat.
During private training sessions, we’ll input all your exercise stats, set up all your equipment, and coach every rep and set. Your only task is to put in the effort, we’ll take care of the rest. There’s no limits to what we can do with our time together, so we’ll focus on whatever’s most important to you. Many clients will integrate work on their golf swing with their workouts, providing a one-of-a-kind experience and synergy.
Once we finish the session, we’ll ask for a little feedback and evaluation of the session, talk about what’s next, and you’ll leave the gym better and stronger than when you came!
168 Sessions
168 Sessions at Coastal are designed to give you a flexible, private environment to complete your custom workouts. While these sessions offer less coaching than Pro Training, we’re still available and on-hand to coach you through a tricky exercise. 168 sessions are also great for “extra” days when you may not need a lot of coaching or may not have time to get a full 60 minutes in. As always, we’re here to design the perfect workout for every situation.
When you arrive for your 168 session, grab an iPad off the charging station and open the Coastal Performance 168 App. From there, find your name and open up your account. Your profile will display your current plan, so select the proper workout for the day and off you go!
168 Sessions are all about freedom, so you’re welcome to put your own headphones in. However, we do ask that you keep your phone and devices OFF the gym floor to avoid damage or other interference/distraction. If you would like to video or take a picture of something, please put your device back as soon as you’re done. Coastal Performance is not responsible for damage to devices brought onto the gym floor.
NOTE ON TRAINING QUALITY/DEEP WORK: We live in an over-connected world, and it’s hard to be present for most of us, as it seems every hour of our day something is vying for our attention. It is our experience that, unless you’re expecting a call/message that’s critically important and time-sensitive, constant checking/use of your device during your workout will diminish the quality and enjoyment of your workouts. The gym is an escape from the outside world so you can focus on yourself. We recommend you make the most of that opportunity and minimize distractions.
